The City of Alhambra is recruiting volunteers to help decorate its Rose Parade Float, which will sail down Colorado Boulevard in Pasadena on January 1, 2022.
This year’s theme is “Dream. Believe. Achieve”. The City of Alhambra's 93rd float features a bus with the message "School Rocks 2022".
The float is currently being built. Volunteers will decorate it at the Rose Float Plaza South, 5400 Irwindale Avenue in Irwindale.
Dry Decorations
Dry Decorating dates are the first three Saturdays in December: the 4th, 11th or 18th, and the decorating shift is from 9am to 5pm (with a half-hour lunch break at noon). Dry decorating consists of working with dried organic material like seeds, beans, legumes, corn husks, rice, and dried flower petals. These materials help create the different textures of a float design, and since they are dried, they are applied well before the parade.
Floral Decorations
Those interested in working on the Floral Decoration can participate from Sunday, December 26th through Thursday, December 30th, either the morning shift from 8am to 4pm or the evening shift from 4pm to 11pm. Volunteers are asked to work for the entire shift, with a half an hour break for lunch or dinner.
Volunteers should dress warmly in layers, and wear clothes that they don’t mind getting dirty with glue, seeds, and flower petals. Closed-toe shoes are required for safety, and all volunteers must be 13 years of age or older. Please bring your own lunch or dinner.
