[ARCHIVED] SoCalGas To Conduct Methane Emission Mapping From Helicopter

SoCalGas will be working with a helicopter company to conduct methane emission mapping over SoCalGas infrastructure in the Cities of  Pasadena, South Pasadena, Alhambra, Monterey Park and Montebello as well as over the community of Altadena on Monday, August 30, 2021, for one day and then returning on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, for one day.

The Bell JetRanger helicopter allows SoCalGas to detect methane emissions from the air at 500ft altitude (within normal FAA flight operations regulations).

Hours of operation will be from 8am to 5pm.

There is no threat to the community. On the contrary, detection of methane emissions is another method in helping keep the communities SoCalGas serve safe and is part of the SB 1371 Natural Gas emissions reduction program.

If you have questions regarding the helicopter activity, please call SoCalGas' Customer Contact Center at 1-800-427-2200 to speak to a Customer Service Representative. Company representatives are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Additionally, law enforcement in the general area have been made aware of this activity.
