  Crime Statistics

 ALHAMBRA CRIME RATE DROPPED 7.5% IN 2009

For a year that is noted for its crises, both nationally and internationally, one has to return to te confines of our own community for some really good news - the crime rate in the City of Alhambra, during the year 2009, decreased dramatically by 7.5%. Here are some of the more positive statistics:

  • Robberies decreased by 15.38%;
  • Residential burglaries decreased by 13.5%
  • Commercial burglaries decreased by 52%;
  • Theft decreased by 4.25%;
  • Grand theft auto decreased by 16.44%.

On a larger scale, looking at a longer period of time, during the last 4-year period, residential burglaries decreased 28% and grand theft auto decreased an amazing 45%. And, as an additional positive thought about the year just past, there were no murders in Alhambra in 2009!

Alhambra Police Department Crime Prevention Specialist Sharon Williams ascribes these positive statistics, in part, to the heroic efforts of Alhambra residents and business persons who actively participate in the Neighborhood Watch Program, but warns that the criminal element still exists in Alhambra, demanding increased efforts by every Alhambran to our focus on crime prevention and stopping criminal activity in the coming year - and decade.

You can increase your knowledge of our community, and of our superb police department, by registering for the next session of the Citizen's Police Academy, and what better resolution for the new year (and new decade) than to become an active member of Neighborhood Watch. Call Crime Prevention Specialist Williams today -- (626) 570-5177 -- and volunteer your time and effort to further decreasing criminal activity in Alhambra.
