Free hearing screenings are offered each month on the first Tuesday of the month from 9:30-11:00 a.m. Provided by First American Hearing Aid Center. Appointments are required. Free blood pressure screenings are held every Monday at 10 a.m.

MAY 2012 SENIOR ACTIVITIES

  • Friday, May 11 – Mother's Day Tea Party & Luncheon Celebration – 11 a.m. Come together with friends and celebrate all of the wonderful women which have been an inspiration in our lives. We will serve tea and goodies to all in attendance. Add to the merriment by wearing your fanciest hat or bring your favorite cup and saucer to show off.   • Tuesday, May 15 – "Nutrition and Weight Management" Seminar – 10 a.m.

  • Wed. & Thurs., May 16 & 17 – AARP Driver Safety Program – 12:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. Sponsored by AARP, this two-day defensive driving class is accepted by many auto insurance companies for a discount. The fee for the course is $12 for AARP members or $14 for non-AARP members. Please make check or money order payable to AARP.   • Thursday, May 17 - "Probate Wills and Trusts" Seminar, a part of Elder Law Attorney Carlos A. Arcos' series on "Managing Elder Care, Trusts & Medi-Cal" - 10 a.m. For more information, call 626-570-5056, during weekday business hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
     
  • Thursday, May 17 - Gardens of the World & the Lakes Senior Outing - 9 a.m.-4 p.m. The Gardens of the World is a unique tourist site, containing a Japanese Garden, a French Garden (complete with waterfall), an English Perennial & Rose Garden, and an Italian Garden, in addition to an authentic Mission Courtyard (surrounded by olive & citrus trees), and "The Bandstand," a replica of an American Bandstand from which visitors can enjoy music from the grassy amphitheater. Seniors will be given a guided tour through this walking paradise. After visiting the Gardens, participants will be taken to The Lakes, a shopping, dining and entertainment center (lunch on your own). Fee: $12. Registration for this activity begins April 3.   • Tuesday, May 22 – "Better Your Blood Pressure" Seminar – 10 a.m. Presented by SCAN.  For more information, call 626-570-5056, during weekday business hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
     
  • Through Wed., May 23 – H.E.L.P. Diabetes Class – 9 a.m.-11 a.m. This class is designed for individuals who have diabetes. Learn what diabetes is all about, how to manage complications and how different factors affect your blood sugar. Learn steps to help in adopting a healthier lifestyle through healthier food choices and exercise. A different topic will be covered each week.   • Friday, May 25 - Shoreline Village Senior Outing - 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Visit Long Beach's Shoreline Village for an afternoon of lunch, shopping and other activities. Experience dining in beautiful Rainbow Harbor. Lunch is on your own. The shops at Shoreline Village have something for everyone. You can never have too many hats, Native American jewelry and don't miss checking out the Pirate store. For a more

JUNE 2012 SENIOR ACTIVITIES

  • Wednesday, June 6 – Happy June Birthday - Luncheon Celebration - 11 a.m. All June birthday celebrants in attendance will receive a token gift. Registration is required at least two days in advance by calling 626-458-4455, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
      
  • Friday, June 8 – "Hospice Basics & Benefits" Seminar – 10 a.m. Presented by

  • Tuesday, June 12 – "Glaucoma Questions & Answers" Seminar – 10 a.m. Presented by Total Vision Development Center.  For more information, call 626-570-5056, during weekday business hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
     
  • Wednesday, June 13 - Santa Monica on Farmer's Market Day Senior Outing -
    9 a.m.-4 p.m. Join over 900,000 shoppers that visit the Santa Monica Market every year. Collectively, these certified producers provide customers with a selection of year-round fresh, seasonal produce. In addition to the Farmer's Market there is plenty to do around Santa Monica. Take a stroll down the boardwalk or spend some time shopping at the Third Street Promenade. Lunch is on your own. Fee: $12 (Registration begins May 1).
     
  • Friday, June 15 – Father's Day BBQ – 11 a.m. Join us in recognizing the men who have offered their guidance and wisdom to the younger generations.   • Friday, June 22 - Huntington Beach Senior Outing - 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Huntington Beach is among one of the top beach destinations in Orange County for its serene climate, clean environment and not to mention the various shops just a few minutes from the beach on Main Street. The Huntington Beach Farmer's Market and Craft Fair will take place on the day of the outing. Make sure to browse through the various artistries and pick up all of your favorite organic snacks. Enjoy a relaxing day at the beach filled with endless possibilities. You deserve it! Lunch is on your own. Fee: $12 (Registration begins Tuesday, May 1).
     
  • Tuesday, June 26 – "Living with Arthritis" Seminar – 10 a.m. Presented by SCAN.
