The Community Safety House is based in a 35-foot self-container trailer.

Fire Department Accomplishments
Participants at an event gather around the Department's Community Safety House.

  Department Highlights

  • Community Safety House, is a 35-foot mobile trailer that allows children the opportunity to experience a simulated fire like condition in a controlled home environment. The Safety trailer is equipped with a nontoxic smoke system, a heated door, a 911 emergency phone system, a fully equipped kitchen, a bedroom, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, and an emergency ladder extended from the window are all practice escape techniques to lend realism to the safety lessons offered. The mobile classroom is available for use at local schools, community functions, and special events as scheduling permits.

  • Residents In the City of Alhambra are encouraged to be on A.L.E.R.T. The acronym stands for the Alhambra Local Emergency Response Team, and the only prerequisite to join is the desire to help one's self and one's neighbors during an emergency. This program is a fantastic way for citizens to prepare for a possible earthquake. The reality of a disaster is that emergency response to most citizens could be delayed for an uncertain amount of time. A.L.E.R.T. provides disaster response training to residents interested in giving valuable assistance to others, and does not require any special knowledge or skills. In the event of a major disaster, even those with limited abilities will be able to help. Residents can learn utility control, search & rescue, first aid, hazardous materials recognition, fire suppression and disaster psychology. The instruction is provided by the Alhambra Fire Department in a "hands on" classroom setting that is fun for participants. The training is held every Saturday, for three hours, over a six-week period.

  • Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) selected Alhambra Fire Department as the host agency and task force leader for the San Gabriel Valley Arson/Explosives Task Force. Our City was chosen due to the outstanding reputation and experience of the Prevention Division personnel in arson and explosives investigations. As part of the task force, ATF has assigned a full-time federal agent to our department for operational assistance, the task force concept has proven extremely successful in apprehending fire setters, and in dealing with fraud, gang, and related cases.
