The Fire Department's three divisions are Administration, Operations and Fire Prevention.

The Alhambra Fire Department is charged with the following responsibilities:

  • Protect lives and property from fire and other disasters
  • Provide effective emergency medical services
  • Coordinate community safety awareness and fire prevention programs
  • Conduct plan checks and fire inspections
  • Issue public safety permits 
  • Safeguards the public from the dangers of hazardous waste

In 2006, the City of Alhambra Fire Department responded to a total of 5,267 calls, including 3,851 emergency medical rescue calls, and 1,416 emergency responses to structure fires, vehicle fires, vegetation and trash fires, illegal burnings, floodings, special service calls, etc. On average, fire crews are able to make an initial response at the scene of an emergency and begin working within four to six minutes from the time of initial dispatch.
