Adult One-On-One Literacy Tutoring Program

Book Clubs provide reading guidance, sharing of experience, and increased understanding and appreciation of books among like-minded readers. Clubs include the "Adult Learner" Book Club, "Alhambra Page Turners" and "Teen Book Club." for more information, click here.

Homework Tutoring Programs: Get the homework assistance you need through the help of teen volunteers or online tutors. For more information, click here.
Online Library: Through the Library's subscription to a variety of electronic data bases and online books, you can now access a wide range of information from your home computer. Click here for: The Tumblebook Library--E-Books for Kids / Online Databases / Online Catalog / Online Reference Services / Online E-Books through Netlibrary.com / Learning Express Library (an instructional and test preparation website that provides a broad range of practice tests for such official exams as ACT, SAT, GED, ASVAB, Firefighter, Police Officer, Paramedic, EMT Basic, U.S. Citizenship, Postal Worker, Cosmetology, Real Estate Agent & Broker exams).
Passport Service:
Traveling overseas? American citizens can apply for a U.S. passport through the Alhambra Public Library's Passport Service. For appointments, call the Circulation Department at (626) 570-5028 (during open library hours). Passport Service hours are: Wednesday, 5 p.m.-8 p.m. (by appointment only); Thursday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. (walk-in service available, first-come, first-served); Thursday, 5 p.m.-8 p.m. (by appointment only); Saturday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. (by appointment only). Note: passports are now required for "ALL" persons, including U.S. citizens traveling by air and sea to and from Canada, Mexico, Central & South America, the Caribbean and Bermuda. Additionally, passports will be required for land travel to and from Canada and Mexico effective December 31, 2007. Prime Time Family Reading Time: A six-week family literacy program designed to bring together storytellers and humanities scholars with low-income parents (who may have beginning English literacy skills) and their children, aged 6 to 10, who are at risk of low reading skills. (Funded through a federal Library Services and Technology Act grant administered by the California State Library.) For more information, call (626) 570-3281.

Technology Tools:
- AlphaSmart: a compact, portable, battery-powered, easy-to-use word processor that enables users better mobility within the library as they peruse the completion of homework assignments, letter writing, or document preparation. Because of its portability, the AlphaSmart can be used throughout the library, at your study table or at the shelf where your resource information is located, eliminating the need to collect bulky library resources for use at a static computer location. AlphaSmart is easy to use for computer-resistent library users, providing spell check dictionary assistance and other word processing elements to help you create documents in any library location. And printer stations are available throughout  the library to support your work.
