Library Services
Homework assistance is provided by high school students who donate their time to help elementary students in grades 3 through 8 with homework assignments, test preparation, or research projects.

 Adult One-On-One Literacy Tutoring Program

 Book Clubs provide reading guidance, sharing of experience, and increased understanding and appreciation of books among like-minded readers. Clubs include the "Adult Learner" Book Club, "Alhambra Page Turners" and "Teen Book Club."

 Homework Assistance: Teen volunteers are available to assist with homework. For more information, click here.
 Friends Book Store: Located just inside the Second Street entrance, the Friends Book Store offers "gently used" books at very reasonable prices. You'll find prices listed in pencil on the inside of the front page of each book, and all other items are priced as marked. If no one is at the Friends cash register, you're asked to pay "on your honor" for your purchases at the Circulation Desk. If you would like to volunteer to work in the book store to help price and shelve books, please call the Friends membership chair, Margie Lew, at (626) 284-6348.
 Online Library: Through the Library's subscription to a variety of electronic data bases and online books, you can now access a wide range of information from your home computer, including:
     - The Tumblebook Library--E-Books for Kids

     - E-Books through Netlibrary.com 
     - Learning Express Library (an instructional and test preparation website that provides a broad range of practice tests for such official exams as ACT, SAT, GED, ASVAB, Firefighter, Police Officer, Paramedic, EMT Basic, U.S. Citizenship, Postal Worker, Cosmetology, Real Estate Agent & Broker exams).
 Passport Service:
Traveling overseas? American citizens can apply for a U.S. passport through the Alhambra Public Library's Passport Service. For appointments, call the Circulation Department at (626) 570-5028 (during open library hours). Passport Service hours are: Wednesday, 5 p.m.-8 p.m. (by appointment only); Thursday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. (walk-in service available, first-come, first-served); Thursday, 5 p.m.-8 p.m. (by appointment only); Saturday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. (by appointment only). Note: passports are now required for "ALL" persons, including U.S. citizens traveling by air and sea to and from Canada, Mexico, Central & South America, the Caribbean and Bermuda. Additionally, passports will be required for land travel to and from Canada and Mexico effective December 31, 2007.  Prime Time Family Reading Time: A six-week family literacy program designed to bring together storytellers and humanities scholars with low-income parents (who may have beginning English literacy skills) and their children, aged 6 to 10, who are at risk of low reading skills. (Funded through a federal Library Services and Technology Act grant administered by the California State Library.) For more information, call (626) 570-3281.
