Ambiente is a primo-quality eatery/nightclub, and is a relative of the El Cholo Cafe family and their presence in the Southern California dining scene for over 80 years! El Cholo first opened in 1923 (originally named the Sonora Cafe), and the family of Alejandro and Rosa Borquez continue to be involved in the management of the organization that now includes El Cholo Cafe in Pasadena, Dona Rosa Bakery & Taqueria in Pasadena, a new Texas BBQ restaurant soon to open adjacent to El Cholo, and -- the subject of our Alhambra interest -- Ambiente.

One final historical note -- the owner of Ambiente is Blair Salisbury whose grandfather, George, married Alejandro and Rosa's daughter, Aurelia, in 1926, making Blair the great-grandson of the original El Cholo owners! And Salisbury is ably assisted by fellow owner Diego Fernandez (with a mere 23 years of service in the organization) and partner Amaechi Ofomata. So what does this mean for Alhambra?

First of all, it means quality food, comfortable surroundings, and efficient service. In 80+ years, they have learned how to get it right! And, in addition, it means a long term commitment to Alhambra by an organization that is responsive to its public and continually upgrading its service to meet the needs of regular and new customers.

Salisbury has chosen a dedicated team of specialists to operate Ambiente in the manner of an El Cholo relative. Gillermo Fuentes, with eight years of experience with El Cholo, is the Ambiente Chef, and what a menu he has developed. For starters, you can enjoy their signature Chile Pablano Soup, the classic Ambiente Cesar Salad, or the Goat Cheese Quesadilla (if you don't like Goat Cheese--there are many other choices). Entrees include Ambiente's own Latin touch, Aleccios Portobello Mushroom Chicken, Chicken Mole Enchiladas, Red Snapper a la Veracruzana, Honey Rum Shrimp, and a whole passel of other tasty choices.

And to top it off, select a delicious dessert, and maybe a premium Cognac, a Blue Aguave Tequila, premium rum, or a selection from the updated wine list. There are also many unique house specialty drinks, mixed with style and panache by "Sparky" the bartender (a.k.a. entertaining showman).

The service at Ambiente, of course, is impeccable thanks to the efforts of General Manager Ricardo Diaz. He'll see to it that you're comfortably seated, served with efficiency and style (in the main dining room, the fireside patio bar, or the pre-booked VIP room).
