Restaurant Yama opened in 1968 by Mr. Yamatani, who retired in 1988. Since then, Hiro Suemura has continued to serve Japanese favorites such as teriyaki, tempura and sushi at reasonable prices.

The restaurant is small and intimate, consisting of 12 tables divided by wood and paper screens. Japanese artwork -- the work of Motoo Suemurar (the father of chef Mike Suemura) hangs on the walls while traditional music plays in the background.

Artistically-prepared dishes include sukiyaki, katsu, udon, tempura, shashimi, donburi, mahi mahi and salmon. Sushi selections include tuna, shrimp, eel, octopus and yellowtail. Other dishes include chicken and beef teriyaki, as well as combination dishes with two different choices, plus soup, rice and tea. Special menu combinations include the "Yama Special" -- a combination of miso soup, a salad, shrimp and vegetable tempura, teriyaki beef or chicken, char siu, rice and tea, and the "Special Combination" of miso soup, a salad, kushiyaki (skewered grilled beef or chicken), tatsuta-age (Japanese fried chicken) and shumai (steamed dumplings). It's easy to find the items you like paired up in a dinner plate. Traditional Japanese items such as butayaki (butter-fried beef in broth), sukiyaki (beef, rice noodles and tofu in broth) and yosenabe (seafood pot) will also tempt your palate.

A lunch menu is available. Whatever you order, Restaurant Yama delivers large platters full of freshly prepared food in a friendly atmosphere.

To compliment your meal, you can order plum wine, Chablis, hot or cold sake, Japanese beer (Sapporo, Asahi, Kirin,) and American beer (Coors, Budweiser). Restaurant Yama accepts Visa and MasterCard credit cards.
